How the fantasy score is calculated on Panka and where to see the standings

In short

Your fantasy lineup’s score is the average rating of the players you fielded, multiplied by 10, plus the points for events such as goals and assists and the department bonuses, minus 0.5 points for each fielded player left without a rating. These are the default values: each team can change them.

You’ll find it in the details of the finished match, under “FANTASY LINEUP SCORE”. The standings are in the “Stats” tab, under “STANDINGS”: they add up your scores for the season.

The formula

The calculation is based on the players you fielded, with the ratings they got in the real match. There are four parts:

  1. The average rating, times 10 The average rating of the fielded players who got a rating, multiplied by 10. They all weigh the same, goalkeeper included, and anyone without a rating is left out of the average.
  2. The events The points for goals, assists, cards and the other events of your rated fielded players, added to the total. They don’t change the average and they don’t change anyone’s rating.
  3. The department bonuses Fixed points when the goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders or forwards you fielded reach the rating threshold. The thresholds look at the rating, never at events: a defender rated 5.5 who scores is still a 5.5.
  4. The penalty for absentees For each fielded player left without a rating, 0.5 points are subtracted.
  • The total is rounded to one decimal place and can be negative: if none of the players you fielded gets a rating, only the penalties are left.
  • A player the staff has removed from the call-ups drops out of your fantasy lineup when the scores are calculated, with no penalty.
  • An example with the default values: you field 7 players — a goalkeeper on 6, three defenders on 6, 6.5 and 7, a midfielder on 6.5, a forward on 7 who scores, and a midfielder who doesn’t play. The average of the 6 ratings is 6.5, so 65; the goal is worth +2; the three defenders rated 6 or more give +3; the absentee costs −0.5. Total: 69.5.

In the app the formula is in Settings → “Rules”, with your team’s values: “Score = M1 + events + M2 − malus”.

What each event is worth

These are the points a team starts with. The administrator can change them, and an event set to 0 is switched off:

EventPoints
Goal +2 (8-a-side and 7-a-side: +1.5; 5-a-side: +1)
Penalty scored +2 (8-a-side and 7-a-side: +1.5; 5-a-side: +1)
Assist +1
Clean sheet +2
Penalty saved +2
Yellow card −0.5
Red card −1.5
Own goal −1
Penalty missed −1
Goal conceded −0.5
  • A red card absorbs the yellow: if a player gets both a yellow and a red, only the red counts, −1.5.
  • Events don’t depend on position: the staff can record a clean sheet even for a defender who ended up in goal.

The department bonuses

Each bonus is worth +3 and is independent of the others. The goalkeeper bonus applies if the goalkeeper you fielded is rated 7 or more. The others apply if you fielded enough players from that department with a rating of at least 6 in defence, 6.5 in midfield and 7 in attack. How many you need depends on the format, 11, 8, 7 or 5-a-side:

Department11-a-side8-a-side7-a-side5-a-side
Defenders, rated 6 or more 3 3 2 1
Midfielders, rated 6.5 or more 3 2 2 2
Forwards, rated 7 or more 3 1 1 1
  • The position that counts is the one the player had when you saved the fantasy lineup.
  • There is only one goalkeeper bonus, even if you field two goalkeepers.
  • If the team chooses the format match by match, each format has its own values: in the “Rules” you can read them by choosing the “Format”.

Where you see your score

  • In the details of the finished match, under “FANTASY LINEUP SCORE”. Until the scores have been calculated, there is a dash.
  • In the same details, tap “Your fantasy lineup”: at the bottom, “Score formula” sets out the whole calculation, from the average to the events, the bonuses and the “Absence penalty”, and how many fielded players had a rating.
  • In the “Calendar”, on the finished match, the “SCORE:” badge with your points.
  • On the Home, under “LAST MATCH”, the “YOUR FANTASY LINEUP” box with the “TOTAL POINTS”.

The coach doesn’t play the fantasy game: they have no score and don’t see these items.

When it is calculated

The score doesn’t build up as the ratings come in: everything is calculated in one go, and without at least one rating nothing is calculated. It happens:

  • when the staff finishes the match with “Calculate scores on save” turned on;
  • when the ratings poll closes, if it has produced ratings;
  • when the staff taps “Calculate Scores” in Settings → “Votes and scores”, or corrects the ratings with “Edit Match”.

At the same moment, anyone who hasn’t fielded a lineup gets the default fantasy lineup.

If ratings or values change

Once calculated, scores stay frozen. If the staff later corrects a rating, or the administrator changes the team’s values, scores and standings don’t move until they are recalculated. A rating is corrected and recalculated match by match; the administrator redoes all the season’s finished matches in one go with “Recalculate”, in Settings → “Scoring parameters”.

In the meantime, the “Score formula” does the calculation with today’s values and shows the difference in the “Archive alignment” row. In the standings, the saved score is the one that counts.

The standings

Open the “Stats” tab and choose “STANDINGS”: for each person it adds up the scores of their fantasy lineups in the season, default ones included. With “TOURNAMENT” you switch from the “Overall standings” to the standings of a single competition, “Friendlies” included. At first you see the competition of the last match played, or the overall standings if it was a friendly; after that the app remembers your choice.

  • Players and administrators appear in them. The coach doesn’t: their “Stats” tab only has “PLAYERS”.
  • A tournament’s standings only show its participants; the “Overall standings” show everyone taking part in at least one competition of the season. Participants are chosen by an administrator in Settings → “Tournaments” → “Manage participants”.
  • Matches with “Exclude from scoring”, which give no points, don’t count, and nor do those with “Exclude from the standings”, which give points and matchday winners but stay out of all the standings.
  • As long as no match has been calculated, you read “No match has been scored yet: the standings fill up once scores are calculated for the first time.”
  • On the Home, the “LEADERBOARD” box shows an excerpt; “See all” opens the full standings.

The standings of past seasons can be viewed by choosing the season in Settings → “Seasons”.

Matchday winners

In the details of every finished match, under “TOP 3 FANTASY LINEUPS”, you’ll find the best fantasy lineups of that matchday.

  • By default there are 3: an administrator chooses from 0 to 10 in Settings → “General settings” → “Matchday winners”, and with “None (don’t show them)” the box disappears.
  • Default fantasy lineups, marked “auto”, aren’t included; in the standings, however, they do count.
  • A match with “Exclude from scoring” has no matchday winners.
  • In “Games with friends” teams you’ll also find them on the Home, under “MATCHDAY WINNERS”.

Your ratings and your statistics

If your account is linked to your roster card, you can find the ratings you get as a player in several places:

  • in the details of the finished match, under “YOUR RATING”, which becomes “YOUR RATING/FANTASY SCORE” when your events are worth points;
  • on the Home, in “YOUR CARD”, with the “LAST RATINGS” and the “FORM”; flip it with “Statistics” to see the season, with the “AVG RATING”, appearances, goals, assists and cards;
  • in the “Profile” tab, under “PLAYER”, with “ALL RATINGS” and “BONUSES AND PENALTIES”;
  • in the “Stats” tab, under “PLAYERS”, in the table for the whole roster: “MP” (matches with a rating), “GOALS”, “AVG”, “AST”, “YC”, “RC”, “OG” and, in “Team & league” teams, “TRN”. With “Competition” you narrow it down to one tournament.

The average rating only counts ratings, without events. The fantasy score, that is rating plus events, is a way of reading your match: the fantasy game score doesn’t use it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the goalkeeper’s rating carry more weight?

No. In the average all ratings weigh the same, goalkeeper included. The goalkeeper can only trigger their own bonus: +3, with the default values, if rated 7 or more.

Why is my score negative?

Because none of the players you fielded got a rating: the average is worth 0 and you are left with the penalties for absentees, 0.5 points each with the default values.

One of my players scored, but the goal gave no points: why?

For the fantasy game, what counts is the “Goal” event on the player’s rating sheet, not the list of “SCORERS”. Ask the staff to add it to the rating sheet and recalculate the scores.

The team changed the values: why are the standings the same?

Because scores that have already been calculated stay frozen. They are updated when an administrator taps “Recalculate” in Settings → “Scoring parameters”.

Why am I not in the tournament standings?

You aren’t one of that tournament’s participants, or you are the coach. Participants are managed by an administrator in Settings → “Tournaments”.

Is it worth fielding as many players as possible?

Not necessarily. The average is what counts: a low rating brings it down, and anyone who doesn’t play costs 0.5 points. More players do, however, help you trigger the department bonuses.
