How to set your fantasy lineup on Panka

In short

Open the next match and tap “Enter fantasy lineup”. Choose your team-mates from the call-ups, staying within your team’s credits, and tap “Save”.

You can change it as many times as you like until the deadline, which is 60 minutes before kick-off unless your team has changed it. If you don’t set one, the app assigns you a default one when the scores are calculated.

What it is, and who can field one

On Panka the fantasy lineup is the side you field for one of your team’s real matches: you choose your team-mates, they take the pitch, and the ratings they get become your score.

It is fielded by the team’s players and administrators. Not by the coach: the coach is the one who gives the ratings, so they don’t play the fantasy game and don’t appear in the standings.

In the match details, the button to field one appears when all of these conditions are met:

  • the match is “Upcoming” and the deadline hasn’t passed yet;
  • the staff has entered the call-ups: you can only field players from among them, and nobody can field a team-mate who hasn’t been called up;
  • if the match is part of a tournament, you are one of its participants — otherwise the app warns you: “You are not taking part in this tournament: you cannot field a fantasy lineup.”;
  • the season is open: a closed season can be viewed, but not edited.

Step by step

  1. Open the match On the Home, in the “NEXT MATCH” box (in teams that play a league it is called “NEXT UP”), tap “Enter fantasy lineup”. Alternatively, go to “Calendar”, open the match and tap the “Enter fantasy lineup” row, where you can also see the budget you have available.
  2. Choose the players The “Fantasy lineup” editor opens in “Simple” mode. Under “AVAILABLE” are the call-ups, with position and cost in credits: the “+” fields a player and moves them to “SELECTED”. If the list is long, search for them by name.
  3. Or place them on the pitch With “Advanced” you choose the “Formation”, for example 4-4-2, and tap a marker to put a player there. Each marker only accepts its own department: a midfielder can’t go in defence. Slots you leave empty don’t cost you points. Both modes work on the same selection, so you can switch from one to the other.
  4. Check credits and players At the top you can see how many players you have fielded and how many credits you have spent — for example “38/45 credits” — along with the minimum and maximum number of players. If someone can’t be added, the app tells you why: “Insufficient budget”, “Fantasy lineup full” or “Already selected”.
  5. Tap “Save” The green button at the bottom saves the fantasy lineup. If you have fielded fewer players than the minimum, the app points it out (“Select at least 5 players to save the fantasy lineup”) and doesn’t save. When saving succeeds, “Fantasy lineup saved successfully” appears, and on the Home the match goes from “LINEUP NOT SET” to “LINEUP SET”. If you leave without saving, the app asks you to confirm: your picks would be lost.

Credits and number of players

Each team has its own numbers, and the administrator decides them. These are the ones a team starts with, format by format:

FormatCreditsPlayers, minimumPlayers, maximum
11-a-side football 45 5 11
8-a-side football 33 4 8
7-a-side football 29 4 7
5-a-side football 21 3 5
  • You don’t have to spend all your credits or fill every slot: what counts is who you field, not how many.
  • Every player you field who then gets no rating, because they didn’t play, costs a penalty (0.5 points with the default values): better an empty slot than a team-mate who stays at home.
  • Each player’s cost stays what it was when you fielded them: if their value changes later, your fantasy lineup doesn’t change, even if you reopen it and edit it.
  • There is no captain: no player counts double.

You can find your team’s values in the app, in Settings → “Rules”.

Until when you can change it

Entry closes at the team’s deadline: 60 minutes before kick-off, unless the administrator has changed it in Settings → “General settings”. Until then you can edit it as many times as you like, with “Edit fantasy lineup”.

You can see the time left in the match details, under “FANTASY LINEUP DEADLINE IN”, and on the Home next to “By:”. A reminder also arrives, if you have notifications turned on: in Settings → “Choose what you receive”, the row is “Fantasy lineup”.

After the deadline your fantasy lineup stays the one you saved. You can look at it again with “Show your fantasy lineup” and, once the match is over, with “Your fantasy lineup”.

If you don’t set one

You aren’t left on zero. When the scores are calculated, the app gives anyone who hasn’t fielded a lineup a default fantasy lineup, chosen in this order:

  1. your last fantasy lineup of the same season, keeping only the players called up for this match;
  2. if you don’t have one, the team’s lowest-scoring fantasy lineup of this season, reduced to the call-ups;
  3. failing that, the worst one of this match;
  4. failing that, the cheapest players on the roster, as many as the format provides for.

It counts in the standings like the others, but it is marked “auto”, it isn’t included among the best of the matchday and it can’t be shared as a “My round card”. You’re better off fielding one.

Other people’s fantasy lineups

In the match details, “All fantasy lineups” shows your team-mates’ lineups. They become visible at the deadline, when nobody can change theirs any more: before then you read “Fantasy lineups not available”. Administrators can always see them, because they are the ones who have to check them.

Not to be confused with the coach’s lineup

The same match details also have “Coach’s lineup”: that is the real lineup, the one that takes the pitch, and it is entered by the coach or an administrator. It plays no part in the fantasy game. Your score depends only on your fantasy lineup and on the ratings of the players you fielded.

How it becomes a score

Once the match is over, the ratings come in and the scores are calculated. Your fantasy lineup’s score starts from the average rating of the players you fielded, multiplied by 10; then the points for events (goals, assists, clean sheets…) and the department bonuses are added, and the penalties for fielded players who didn’t play are subtracted. All the values are decided by the team.

You’ll find it in the match details, under “FANTASY LINEUP SCORE”; the total across matchdays is in the “STANDINGS”, in the “Stats” tab.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I see “Enter fantasy lineup”?

It happens if you are the team’s coach, if the deadline has passed, if the match is no longer “Upcoming”, if you aren’t taking part in that match’s tournament or if you are looking at a closed season. If none of these applies to you, check that you have opened the right team: each one has its own matches.

A team-mate isn’t among the available players: why?

They aren’t among the call-ups for that match. The call-ups are decided by the staff: ask the coach to add them, then reopen the fantasy lineup.

Does the fantasy lineup carry over to the next match?

No: each match has its own, and for the next one you start from an empty list. Only if you don’t set one does the app start again from the last one you saved in the season, as a default fantasy lineup.

Can I field myself too?

Yes, if you are among the call-ups. On Panka you field your real team-mates, yourself included.

Is there a captain?

No. There is no captain, vice-captain or multiplier: in the average rating, every fielded player who gets a rating weighs the same, and then events and bonuses are added.

Can the coach make a fantasy lineup?

No, because the coach is the one who gives the ratings. A coach who also wants to play has to be made an administrator, by an administrator of the team in Settings → “Members”.
