How to create a match and choose the call-ups on Panka

In short

Matches are created by the coach or an administrator: in “Calendar” tap “+”, type the two teams in “Home” and “Away”, choose the “Date and Time” and tap “Create match”. With “Manage Call-ups” you can say straight away who is called up: in that case the team gets the “New match” notification.

The call-ups are changed from the “Call-ups” row in the match details, until the match is finished. They apply to everyone: in the fantasy lineup you can only field called-up players.

Who can do it

The coach and the team’s administrators create, edit and delete matches, and choose their call-ups. Players can see the matches and the list of call-ups, but can’t change them.

If you are viewing an archived season, nothing can be created or edited: the data stays read-only.

Creating a match

  1. Open “Add Match” Go to “Calendar” and, in the list of matches, tap “+”. The same button is in Settings → “Matches”.
  2. Type the teams “Home” and “Away” are the only required fields. Under each one there is a button that reads “Use” followed by your team’s name, which fills it in for you. If neither of the two is your team, the app asks you to confirm before creating the match: “Neither side is your team”.
  3. Fill in the details In “Date and Time” put the kick-off time. “Location” is for the name of the pitch and “Address” for the street: pick one of the suggestions, so that the map opens at the exact spot. “Duration (minutes)” goes from 1 to 240, and if you leave it empty it is 90. Location and duration start from the “Default values”, which you set in Settings → “Matches” with the cog icon.
  4. Choose tournament and format In “Tournament” you set the competition; a match that isn’t part of one goes under “Friendlies”, which is the starting choice. The “Format” field (11, 8, 7 or 5-a-side football) only appears if the team chooses the format match by match, and it can’t be changed once the match has been created.
  5. Decide whether it counts “Exclude from scoring”: the match gives no fantasy points, has no matchday winners and generates no cards, but the players’ average rating, goals and appearances still count. “Exclude from the standings”: the match gives its points and has its matchday winners, but stays out of the standings.
  6. Call up and create “Manage Call-ups” becomes active once you have typed both teams: choose the call-ups and tap “Save call-ups”. Then tap “Create match”. If you chose at least one player, the team gets “New match”; if you create the match without call-ups, no notification is sent, and the team will get “Call-ups updated” when you add them.

If “Always friendlies” is on (Settings → “General settings”), every new match starts with “Exclude from the standings” already ticked: you can untick it when you create the match.

Adding or changing the call-ups

The call-ups are the players available for that match. There is only one list for the whole team: everyone’s fantasy lineup is chosen only from among them, and nobody can field a player who hasn’t been called up.

  1. Open the match from the “Calendar” and tap the “Call-ups” row. If the next match has no call-ups yet, the coach also finds the “Enter call-ups” button on its card, on the Home and in the “Calendar”.
  2. The roster players are grouped by position: tap a name to call them up or to remove them. “Select all” and “Deselect all” are quicker.
  3. Tap “Save call-ups”. The team gets the “Call-ups updated” notification.
  • The call-ups can be changed even after the fantasy lineup deadline and during the match. Once the match is finished they are locked: “The match is finished. The call-ups can no longer be changed.”
  • Be careful with last-minute changes: nobody can field a player you add after the deadline, and a player you remove drops out of the fantasy lineups that had fielded them when the scores are calculated.
  • Players see the list in read-only mode. On the Home, on the next match card, they read “CALLED UP” or “NOT CALLED UP”.

The coach’s lineup

This is the real lineup, with starters and substitutions. It is entered by the coach or an administrator, and it plays no part in the fantasy game: scores depend only on fantasy lineups and ratings.

  1. In the match details tap “Coach’s lineup”; while it is empty, the row says “Not set yet”. It is built from the call-ups, so enter those first.
  2. In “Simple” you tick who starts. In “Advanced” you choose the “Formation” and tap a marker to put a player in that position.
  3. In “Substitutions” choose who goes “Off” and who comes “On”, with the minute if you like, and tap “Add”. Then tap “Save”.
  • If you prefer to enter it at the end of the match, you’ll find it in “Finish Match”, under “Starters and substitutions”.
  • When players get to see it is decided by an administrator in Settings → “General settings” → “Coach’s lineup”: “Always”, “From kick-off” (the starting choice) or “From a set time before the match”. Until then, if the coach has already entered it, players see the row with a padlock. The coach and administrators can always see it.

In “Games with friends” teams

If the “Team type” in Settings → “General settings” is “Games with friends”, you create the match in the same way. Three things change:

  • the coach’s lineup has “Field both teams”: the group splits in two, the call-ups stay a single list and everyone plays on one side;
  • there is no “Tournaments” page in Settings, so in “Tournament” you’ll usually only find “Friendlies”;
  • anyone who creates the team as “Games with friends” starts with “Always friendlies” on: new matches are created with “Exclude from the standings” already ticked.

Editing or deleting a match

In Settings → “Matches” tap the match: “Edit Match” opens. The coach has the same shortcut, “Edit match”, on the next match card on the Home and in the “Calendar”. Change what you need and tap “Save changes”: for a match still to be played, the team gets “Match updated”.

  • “Delete match”, at the bottom of the form, deletes the match along with its call-ups, fantasy lineups and ratings, and the team gets “Match deleted”. There is no going back. In Settings → “Matches” you can also get there by long-pressing the match and choosing “Delete”.
  • On a finished match, “Status” → “Upcoming” puts it back as still to be played, but deletes the ratings, rating sheets and scores already calculated: the app asks you to confirm.
  • To correct the result and ratings of a finished match there is “Edit result and votes”.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I see the “+” in the Calendar?

Only the coach and administrators can see it, and not in an archived season. If you are a player, ask the staff to create the match; if you are staff, check that you aren’t viewing a past season.

A player doesn’t appear among those I can call up: why?

They don’t have an active card on this season’s roster. The staff adds them in Settings → “Players”; if instead they were removed from the season’s roster, an administrator puts them back from Settings → “Seasons” → “Manage roster”.

Can I change the call-ups after the fantasy lineup deadline?

Yes, until the match is finished. But nobody can field the players you add, and the ones you remove drop out of the fantasy lineups when the scores are calculated.

Does the coach’s lineup count in the fantasy game?

No. It is useful for the team and for the starters’ statistics, but the fantasy score depends only on fantasy lineups and ratings.

Can you create a match that our team isn’t playing in?

Yes. The app asks you to confirm with “Neither side is your team”, but doesn’t stop you: it is useful, for example, for a group that splits into two teams.

How do I stop getting match notifications?

In Settings → “Choose what you receive”, turn off the “Matches” row, which covers new matches, changes and call-ups.
